Diversity of Moderate Halophilic bacteria from Sambhr Salt Lake

چکیده
Halophiles are salt-loving organisms that inhabit hypersaline environments and are well equipped to balance the osmotic pressure of the environment and resist the denaturing effects of salts. Halophiles can be grouped as slightly, moderately or extremely halophilic, depending on their requirement for NaCl. Moderately halophilic bacteria are microorganisms able to grow optimally in media containing 3 to 15% (wt/vol) salts (Kushner, 1993). This group is very heterogeneous taxonomically and includes a great variety of species belonging to Archaea (Mathrani et al.,1988) and Bacteria (Ventosa, 1994). Halophiles are found distributed all over the world in hypersaline environments, many in natural hypersaline brines in arid, coastal, and even deep sea locations, as well as in artificial salterns used to mine salts from the sea. Their novel characteristics and capacity for large-scale culturing make halophiles potentially valuable for biotechnology (DasSarma and Arora (2001). Halophiles produce a large variety of stable and unique biomolecules including hydrolytic enzymes (Birgul Ozcan et al, 2009). Recent decades have seen a surge in studies on extreme environments including hypersaline ecosystems. Major emphasis is on identification of extremophiles based on both molecular and biochemical basis. ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 3 Number 7 (2014) pp. 518-525 http://www.ijcmas.com

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Halophilic bacteria can grow and survive in environments with a wide range a wide range of salinities. In this study, we aimed to isolate halophilic bacteria from the Meyghan Lake in Arak (Iran) and evaluate their enzymatic activity. Methods: Samples were taken from four different areas of the lake. Halophilic bacteria were isolated by...
متن کاملIsolation of Halophilic Bacteria from Maharlu salt Lake - Iran and their evaluation for the production of bioactive compounds
Halophilic bacteria grow over a wide range of salt concentrations. In this study we aimed to isolate and screen out the halophilic bacteria and to determine their activity for production of the bioactive compounds. A total of 50 water, sediments and soil samples were collected from Maharlu salt lake in southern region of Fars-Iran and subjected for isolation of the bioactive compound producing ...
متن کاملIsolation of some bacteria for halophilic microbiome of Urmia Lake
Urmia Lake is the largest lake in the Iranian plateau and the second largest Salt Lake in the world. This study was conducted to identify hypersaline bacteria in the lake through the screening with molecular markers. For the molecular study of the bacterial microbiome of the lake, samples were collected from water, sludge and soil of the different parts of the lake during different seasons of 2...
متن کاملScreening and Isolation of Extracellular Protease Producing Bacteria from the Maharloo Salt Lake
Screening and identification of moderately halophilic protease producing bacteria from different regions of Maharloo, a hypersaline lake in the southern area of Iran, were the objectives of this study. In the preliminary screening, 16 isolates exhibited proteolytic activity on saline skim milk agar. All isolates were able to grow comfortably in the media containing 7-15% of salt. Protease...
